Animation (ANI2) - Pixilation

Pixilation is a stop motion technique that involves live actors or objects to create an animated film. As with stop motion, a picture is taken every time the object or actor moves. The actor then becomes a sort of live stop motion puppet.

After watching some examples, I realised that I used to watch a show on television when I was younger that did in fact incorporate the art of Pixilation. Here is an example of pixilation being used in the children's television series "Ooglies" :

Here is another example, featuring the work of the well known PES:

We tried our own pixilation experiments in groups and decided to go with the idea of using our shoes to walk down the corridor. This worked well but when it was put together we realised we needed to shoot more frames in order for it to look more fluid. Here is our completed attempt at pixilation:

Following this, we decided to have a go at doing some pixilation with plasticine, however I later realised that this probably didn't count as pixilation and was really just stop motion, as it wasn't involving an object that I didn't have to make myself. But here is my little short anyway, I call it "Bob the Blob" :

I am definitely keen to try pixilation again and get it right next time. The great thing about pixilation is that it can be done at home, using your own household objects. So perhaps in the future I will have a go again with some objects found around the home.
